Burial Law

Burials, regardless of whether in an established cemetery, the backyard, or the family farm, must comply with Pennsylvania law, including “depth-of-grave” requirements.

In all cases of human death, a proper death certificate must be filed within 96 hours of death with the Department of Health, unless the coroner is still investigating the cause of death. A body cannot be disposed of without a properly issued burial permit.
